Video Player Integrations

The Twistage player framework is designed to provide the utmost flexibility when creating the end-user experience. Whether you've already built your own player or are looking for some pre-built templates, our open architecture will work around your existing requirements, rather than imposing new ones. While the player is an essential component of most customer installations, the integration doesn't revolve around the player. In fact, the player can easily be replaced at any time with the click of a button in our management console – no code changes are required.

Separation of Player and Content

Twistage has been architected from the ground up as a powerful content management system. The Twistage management console facilitates browsing and searching your content, allowing you to filter by a wide array of criteria including date, metadata, popularity, and more. The player abstraction layer provides you with fine-grained control over how the player should appear, which content should be loaded, how the content is delivered, etc., but fundamentally remains separated from the content itself. Designing Twistage in this fashion makes it straightforward to swap out one Flash-based player for another or even opt for a Flash-free experience by using an HTML5 based player

Built-in players

Twistage is pre-integrated with two of the web's most popular video players: JW Player and Flowplayer. Both players are skinnable and support all the most popular delivery methods. They also feature extensive JavaScript APIs for programmers, enabling you to tightly integrate the playback experience into your own website. JW Player and Flowplayer also offer open source options and documented APIs, so if you're interested in peeking under the hood or even writing your own plugins (see below), you're free to do so.

Player plugins

Each Twistage player is built on top of a plugin model allowing you to extend the capabilities of the player while writing no code. Off-the-shelf plugins exist for each player providing capabilities such as skinning, viral sharing features, analytics, monetization capabilities and more. In addition to plugins offered by third-party providers, it's also possible for you to write your own plugins. Player plugins can vary from having no visible user interface whatsoever (as with analytics or reporting plugins) to taking over the entire player window and disabling controls (as with advertising plugins) or anything in between. Plugins are a convenient way of including a small amount of your own custom functionality in the player while leveraging all the existing features the players provide so you don't have to reinvent the wheel…or the player.

Custom player uploads

If you're interested in creating a truly unique end-user experience, you may be interested in building your own player from scratch. Virtually any Flash player can be uploaded into your Twistage account. Our mapping layer allows you to describe to Twistage exactly what sort of data the player expects as parameters, like the video URL, the delivery type, still frame image, etc. As with our other player options, it's possible to switch the player used by your website within the Twistage management console, without having to any programming or update any embed codes.
